10 Things Not to Say in a Job Interview Job searching can be incredibly stressful. You’ve been anxiously sending out applications and now you have an interview, which is great! But you’ll want to make sure you don’t fall victim to any of the major faux pas of interviewing. Show you’re the right person for the job without waving any of the worst red flags. When in doubt, try to avoid the following 10 things.1. !!Salty language  just reads like amateur hour. Of course, everybody swears, but these words are best kept out of professional situations- particularly interviews. Likewise, you’ll want to keep any negative or bigoted speech off the table as well.2.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"My current boss is the  worst.†Your last boss was empirically awful, and you hated them. No matter how much righteousness is on your side, it’s best to refrain from boss-bashing to your potential new boss. It comes across as griping, and your interviewer will assume you just have a bad attitude- or that you were the one who was difficult to work with, not your former boss. If asked about a contentious boss situation, try and put a positive spin on the relationship by focusing on what you learned and how you grew.3.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"I am the best, because I know everything.†There are lots of ways to enumerate your many accomplishments without coming across as arrogant and using too many â€Å"I† statements outlining your greatness. If extreme confidence is just part of who you are, find a way to check it for the purposes of the interview.4.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"I’ll do whatever, in any position. It doesn’t matter.†You may think you’re being open minded and helpful by saying you’ll â€Å"do whatever!† but really you’re just showing that you lack a specific passion for the work of that company or industry, and a lack of awareness as to what sort of role you could best play. Target your search to jobs you think you’d be uniquely qualified to pe rform, then sell that in the interview, specifically.5.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"I  need this job or I won’t be able to pay my rent!†Ã¢â‚¬Å"If I don’t get this job†¦Ã¢â‚¬  is not a good way to start a sentence in an interview situation. There is no way to guilt an interviewer into giving you a job. Don’t even try. Get the job on your own merits and you’ll be a whole lot happier in the long run.6.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"So what is the exact title and who are you?†Don’t go into an interview situation without knowing exactly who you’re speaking with and exactly what the position is you’re being considered for. Ban the phrase â€Å"what job is this again?† from your vocabulary.7.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"So as a baby, I was very hard working †¦ and then in first grade †¦ and then in middle school†¦ â€Å"You’ll want to be as articulate as possible. Don’t give one word answers, but don’t get lost in run-on sentences or soliloquies either. Try to practice a few responses to questions you might reasonably expect to be asked. Keep each one under a minute, with just enough detail to help you stand out from the crowd.8. â€Å"Well, I’d say my biggest flaw is my obsession with being perfect.†No, perfectionism is not your greatest weakness. A hiring manager will see through this- the oldest play in the book- as a lazy clichà ©. Come up with something more honest that can lead you to a better discussion of how to learn and grow constructively.9. â€Å"How many vacation days do I get?†It’s perfectly reasonable to inquire as to the details of your compensation package. But focusing on these things too much, especially in a first interview, is a huge no-no- you’ll risk sounding like you won’t actually be interested in doing any work.10. â€Å"Sorry.†Ã¢â‚¬Å"Sorry I’m late† is something you should never say. First of all, you should never be late in the first place. Second of all, try to avoid having anything to apologize for. The 8 Most Common SAT Writing Mistakes Students Make SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips I’ve worked with dozens of students as they studied for the SAT, and the writing section is often the most confusing for them.It tests a lot of grammar concepts youmay not havelearned in school or else haven’t studied in many years- even if you're an A student in English class, there are probably some rules tested on the SAT that you aren't familiar with. Happily, the test asks about the same few concepts over and over again, so there aren't that many topics you really need to know. Avoiding just a few of the most common mistakes students often make can really help your score. However, SAT English is very different than day-to-day spoken English: SAT Writing questions routinely contain phrases that sound finebut are actually wrong or sound weird but are actually correct. SAT Writing questions often include more than one answer that seem like they could be correct, but there will be something significantly off about all but one of them (or, in the case of Identifying Sentence Errors, only one will include a real error, even if some of the other choices seem weird). Let's clear up some gerund-related misconceptions: Gerunds aren't actually verbs, they're nouns.Gerunds represent the action that the verb describes. Gerunds seem correct, but they often indicate an error. Watch out especially for "being," which is almost always wrong when it appears. Gerunds errors on SAT writing are much more common than you might think.A lot of SAT writingadvice treats gerund issues as relatively rare, but they are actually quite common, because gerundsare involved in so many different types of questions. Here are the three major types of SAT writing questionsthat involve gerunds: Wordiness. Gerund use in Improving Sentences questions often indicates overly wordy constructions. Consider whether there's a more straightforward way to phrase the sentence. Parallelism. A list of gerunds often indicates a parallelism error- check to make sure all the items in the list are the same form. Fragments. Sometimes you'll see a gerund used in place of a main verb, creating a fragment. The simpler ones are easy to spot: you'll probablynotice something's wrongif a sentence uses "him" to refer to "Mrs. Smith." Slightly more complicated, and much more common, are the questions thattest you on whether you can recognize if a pronoun should be plural or singular. For example, is "Every child must bring their own notebook" or "Every child must bring his or herown notebook" correct? It's the latter because "child" is singular and "their" is plural. The trickiest pronoun agreement questions, however, deal with absent or ambiguous antecedents. (Antecedentsare the nouns that pronouns take the place of.) These errors occur when it isn't clear what noun a pronoun is referring to. For example: Incorrect:Jose and his dadwere concerned about whether he could finish his project. Correct:Jose and his dadwere concerned about whether Josecould finish his project. The first sentence is incorrect because it's unclear who he is (it could be either Jose or his dad), and the second one fixes the errorby specifying that it's Jose'sproject. The key rule to remember for pronoun questions is that every pronoun- including words like which and that- must have a clear noun antecedent. Image: Topher McCulloch/Flickr #5: Fixing the Original Error but Creating Another On Improving Sentences questions, you need to make sure that you don't inadvertently create a new issue when you solve the original error. Two key points: Make sure to read all of the choices and pick thebestanswer, not just whichever one seems acceptable. Avoid overly complicated or wordy answers- the rightanswer is generally the shortest grammatically correct option. However, idiom questions only test specific types of constructions: matching verb and preposition pairs and choosing between gerunds and infinitives (to + verb). Let's look at an example of the first type: Incorrect:Isabella wants to go atDisneyland to ride the Space Mountain coaster. Correct:Isabella wants to go toDisneyland to ride the Space Mountain coaster. "Go to," not "go at," is the correct expression. Here's the sameexample sentence but witha gerund versus infinitive issue: Incorrect:Isabella wants goingtoDisneyland to ride the Space Mountain coaster. Correct:Isabella wants to go toDisneyland to ride the Space Mountain coaster. Keep in mind that questions about idiomatic expressions are limited to these two types of phrases. If you see a weird-seeming word or phrase that doesn't fall into either category, it's probably correct (unless, of course, you can find another specific problem with it). Image: Andy/Flickr #7: Missing Faulty Modifiers Dangling modifiers are a relatively common topic on SAT Writing that can be very tricky to spot because they aren't obviously incorrect. This type of error occurs when a descriptive phrase at the beginning of a sentence isn't immediatelyfollowed by the noun it's modifying. For example: While tending to the garden, a snake appeared, startling Lola. This sentence mayseem fine, but it implies that the snake is tending the garden, which doesn't make much sense. Modifiers must always be next to the thing that they're modifying. Let's look at a corrected version of the sentence: While tending to the garden, Lola was startled by the appearance of a snake. Now the modifier "while tending to the garden" is appropriately placed next to Lola, the person it's describing. Most faulty modifier questions are structured like this example, but for further exploration of modifier errors, see our full poston the topic. #8: Comparing Non-Equivalent Nouns Illogical comparisons are challenging because like dangling modifiers they don't come up that much outside of SAT Writing. Luckily, these questions follow a single basic rule: you can only compare equivalent things. For example, you can compare a golden retriever and a pug, because they're both types of dogs, but not a golden retrieverand a pug's face, because one if a type of dog and the other is a dog's face. Let's look at a sentence: Boulder High's trackteam is much faster than Fairview High. What is the comparison between? "Boulder High's track team" and "Fairview High." That comparison doesn't actually make sense: the sentence is trying to say thatBoulder High's track team is faster thanFairviewHigh's track team, not faster thanFairview High. The correct version of the sentence specifies this fact: Boulder High's trackteam is much faster than Fairview High's. Now it's clear that we're comparing the two teams. A Walk To Remember Compare Amp Contrast

Both involve a Story Of a boy and a girl, almost completely different in their views, which slowly fall in love n Barefoot, North Carolina. Throughout the movie the struggles of the characters are awfully similar to the struggles of the characters in the book, with a few changes here and there. Although the book and movie are similar, there are still differences between the two such as how the two got to know each other, how the characters are portrayed, as well as how certain events occurred and how the characters reacted to them.The first major difference between the novel and the movie of A Walk to Remember is how different the characters are portrayed in each. For example, throughout the novel the leading girl, Jamie Sullivan, was the shy daughter of the towns Pastor. She was one of the kindest girls anyone had met, she would help anyone whether she was asked or not. She had a big part in the town's orphanage, and she had worshiped God more than anyone had seen. Jamie was an inte lligent conservative girl who wore her blonde hair put in a tight bun all the time.She wasn't known to have many friends, or even do ‘normal' teenager things, and she usually spent her time at school, at the orphanage, or with her father. In comparison, in the movie, Jamie was quite similar to these qualities; she was smart, very religious, shy, kind, and conservative showed by how she had dressed. However, even though Jamie was kind and seemed to be gentle, in the movie it didn't portray how religious she actually was as well as I thought they could've. In addition, don't believe that it showed how much she actually cared for others and wished to help them.For example, Jamie would help younger kids and tutor and do things like that, but in the novel she also worked at an orphanage and would even elf little animals in the middle of the road, but in the movie you didn't truly see that side of Jamie as much. Now on the other hand, the main character, Logan Carter, is quite diffe rent in the movie than how he was described in the novel. F-or example, the very first scene of the movie is Logan playing a mean trick with his friends on a boy.In this scene you can already tell that Logan is supposed to be a â€Å"bad boy' and that h?s supposed to be trouble. In the novel Logan was somewhat of a trouble maker when he was younger, which is possibly what gave the writers the idea to make him a bad boy in the movie. But in reality, Logan is just your average confused teenage boy. He likes to hang out with his friends, go on dates, and didn't enjoy school all that much. Still, in the movie it portrays him as being careless and self centered until Jamie made him realize that he was making some bad choices.Another difference between the novel and the book of A Walk to Remember is how Jamie and Logan actually got to know each other. For example, in the novel they first become a little closer after Logan asks Jamie to the homecoming dance, only because he needed a date and she was the only one aft. But in the movie, they both get cast to do the annual town play, which does happen in the book but it wasn't their first encounter. As the story goes on Logan, as a punishment for his prank in the beginning of the movie, he must participate in the play which he ends up getting the lead role in.He starts to care a little more about the play as the movie progresses and he practices his lines more and more, and eventually asks Jamie to help him with his lines and she agrees to help but on one condition â€Å"he has to promise not to fall in love with her†. Now that line may be cute and seem not that important, but its an incredibly significant quote to the story in my opinion. This quote was used in the novel as well when London had asked Jamie to go to the homecoming dance with her, which I believe shows a little importance that the movie writers had kept such a specific quote.In addition to that, a considerable difference from the book to the movi e would, in my opinion, be the fact that in the novel they fell in love slowly and hung out at one another's house, while in the movie they fell in love faster and did more ‘romantic' or public outings. Also Logan seemed to do more things to â€Å"win† her over in the book such as him visiting the orphanage with her and getting a great deal of money without her knowledge so she could get the orphans Christmas presents, while in the movie they both seemed to just fall in love with each other.Lastly, certain events and reactions differed from the book to the movie. For instance, in the book Lagan's friends would make fun of and tease him for his attraction to Jamie and for spending time and being friends with her. But they never would have dared make fun of Jamie to her face, mainly because they let like she was on Gods â€Å"good side† or had it â€Å"in† with God. Even if they had made fun of her to her face you could tell, just from what you have read tha t she wouldn't have done anything about it and she wouldn't have had a comeback for them.But on the contrary, in the movie Logan and his friends would make fun of her to her face and ridicule her. Even though she was supposed to be Godly and kind, she still remained above it all and even had some types of comebacks. For example, in one scene one Of Lagans friends had said â€Å"If there is a higher power, why is it He can't get you a new sweater? And Jamie replies, â€Å"Because He's too busy looking for your brain†.The last difference between the book and the movie is that in the book when Logan found out about Jamie illness he felt uncomfortable and didn't know what to do. But on the other hand in the movie he seemed to be devoted to her and would do anything for her and he knew exactly what to do, even if he was in denial for a little bit after he heard the news. To conclude, there are differences between the book and the movie, some may be minor some more noticeable, but overall the book and the movie are Mathew similar to each other.
